You might recognize this pale green leaf, which is currently the hippest and hottest piece of green to place in a vase. But did you know it is also an ancient, traditional and folk medicine? In fact the volatile oil that’s extracted from the Australian Eucalyptus Globulus tree is the most powerful of all lung healers. It is known for aiding a wide range of respiratory ailments such as (chronic) sinusitis and asthma. Its anti-bacterial compounds make it a great addition to cleansing DIY mouth washes and body powders. Eucalyptus is a stimulant and can help to get rid of the dull and sluggish feeling that’s a result of the winter season. This beautiful plant will help those who struggle with hay fever. It cleanses the lungs and upper respiratory system from excess phlegm and mucous. All in all it’s safe to say eucalyptus is a perfect addition to your natural healing spring apothecary. How to apply? Simply check out my practical tips below and start creating. Enjoy!

'I breathe deeply, until sweet air extinguishes the burn of fear in my lungs and every breath is a beautiful refusal to become anything less than infinite.' (D. Antoinette Foy)

PRACTICALITIES
Use eucalyptus to: keeping wounds, burns and cuts clean, prevent and treat hay fever, lessen symptoms of asthma, open stuffy sinuses, cleanse and clear the respiratory passages, breathe more easily, support your pranayama practice, stimulate blood flow to the brain thus improving mental performance, prevent dental cavities, wash your mouth, deodorize your armpits, treat (mental) exhaustion and shake off your ‘hibernation feathers’ thus kick-starting a vital and energy-filled spring season.
How: apply a drop of eucalyptus oil to a handkerchief or cotton ball and sniff a couple of times per day to treat asthma, seasonal allergies and hay fever. Add 1 drop of essential oil to 3 tablespoons of carrier oil (coconut or your choice of oil)
Caution: Eucalyptus is extremely powerful and should always be diluted. Don’t use eucalyptus on children younger than six, pregnant and breastfeeding ladies. Rosemary oil is a great substitute for these little and sensitive ones.
